Eyebrow Threading

What is "eyebrow threading"?
Eyebrow threading is an ancient hair-removal technique, practiced for centuries among the most beautiful women of Asia and the Middle East. This method creates a graceful brow with clean, well-defined edges that frame the eye. Threading can help you get that arch-with-attitude look that you've been longing for, as well as help tidy up the temple, upper lip and other facial areas.

How does threading work?
Here at Chicago's Salon Trendz, a beauty technician takes a thin cotton thread and twists it into a double strand, which then is swept along the skin. With rhythmic - almost hypnotic - movement, the unwanted hairs are secured in the thread and lifted from the follicle with precision and finesse.

Is eyebrow threading painful?
Many find that threading causes less discomfort than brow waxing. Because it targets individual hairs, threading keeps skin irritation to a minimum. Excessive pulling on delicate skin around the eyes is eliminated, and for those sensitive to waxing or depilatory products, there is no exposure to irritants.

Is threading better than waxing?
While the answer to this question is a matter of personal opinion, many find threading to be a superior option to tweezing, sugaring or waxing. That's why salons in the States have experienced an exponential growth in the demand for this service. This eastern method of hair removal involves less discomfort and eliminates the chance of your coming in contact with wax that is too hot for tender facial skin. Hair is removed from the root so there's less of that "grow-back factor." This extends the time between salon visits, saving time, gas money and maintenance in front of the mirror! …And, because of the precision involved, salon "threaders" can hone their artistry, creating perfect brows for everyone's unique face shape and personality.

What's the main benefit of threading vs. waxing?
Threading's main benefit is the manner in which the eyebrow is shaped-not just from underneath, but also from the top. One of the major drawbacks of tweezing, especially when done at home, is that it's easy to remove the wrong hairs, creating holes or divots in the shape of the brow. Certain thicker hairs on the bottom line of the brow act as supportive "scaffolding" for the entire brow, so if you inadvertently remove the wrong hairs, the whole shape collapses. Then you are left with trying to camouflage your goof until the hairs grow back. Threading eliminates this common mishap.

How precise is eyebrow threading?
Eyebrow threading is very precise and allows our beauty specialists to have greater control than waxing, giving you a more attractive brow shape. Those stubbly hairs can be removed easily too, helping you avoid those awkward growing-out spells that everyone hates!

How long before hair returns?
It depends on each individual, but it's about the same as tweezing. So, it'll be between two and four weeks before you'll need a tune-up.

How does threading affect the skin?
The great news is that threading affects the skin less than other removal methods. You may have a little pinkness afterward, but pinching is minimal. Any pinkness should go away in about 15 minutes. The majority of people who suffer breakouts from waxing or harsh depilatory creams will find relief after switching to threading, which is recommended by many dermatologists.

How does it compare to other removal methods?
Unlike waxing - which can be messy and time-consuming - threading requires no unnatural products. Using only a thread of 100 percent cotton and a trained eye, a skilled cosmetician can work wonders in minutes. Waxing can tug on, pull, stretch, and even remove delicate skin. Ouch! Such harsh treatment can facilitate the development of wrinkles - the opposite look you were going for. Right?  With threading, there is none of that. You'll simply look smooth, refreshed and hair-free.

I have acne. Is threading OK?
Yes. There should be no side effects whatsoever. As a matter of fact, the majority of people that experience breakouts after waxing find that threading does not have the same effect. It's totally hygienic, so don't have any fears about trying this service.
