Before your appointment:
It is extremely important (and usually required) to schedule a consultation with the hair salon prior to the service. At this time, the stylist can assess your hair and determine whether or not it is suitable for the Japanese Hair Straightening (ie, thermal reconditioning treatment).
Hair that has been colored, highlighted, permed or relaxed may not be suitable for thermal reconditioning. The salon should administer a strand test to analyze the thermal reconditioning effect on your hair.
During the consultation, ask your stylist if there is anything special that needs to be done before your thermal reconditioning appointment. The stylist may request you to condition or abstain from shampooing hair prior to the appointment.
What to Expect:
The thermal reconditioning process can take 3-5 hours, depending on the length and condition of hair. Bring reading material and plan ahead for lunch at the salon.
During the treatment process, special products are applied to relax and break down the bonds of the hair. Afterwards, hair is dried and straightened with an iron.
Post-Treatment:
The salon will request that you wait 48 hours before shampooing or wetting hair.
This includes showering, perspiration (no exercise), steam rooms, and hot tubs/swimming.
Do not use any hair clips, pony tail, or ties immediately following treatment.
Please take any after-care instructions your stylist gives you seriously. Ignoring instructions could cause hair to reverse back to its curly state or cause frizzing or kinking.
